U.S. movie box office sales fell last week
Arizona initial claims for unemployment insurance rose to 4,115 for the week ended April 18, up from 4,020 the prior week. That was down 7.3% over the year and down 22.8% from 2019.
U.S. weekly initial claims for unemployment insurance fell to 205,306 for the week ended April 18, down from 215,042 the prior week. That was down 2.6% over the year and down 3.0% from 2019.
The U.S. hotel occupancy rate ticked up to 66.5% for the week ended April 18, up from 64.9% the prior week. That was up 8.3% over the year and up 1.2% from 2019.
U.S. movie box office sales dropped to $123.8 million for the week ended April 23, down from $158.8 million the prior week. That was down 37.4% over the year and down 18.1% from 2019. New movie releases were down 57.7% from 2019.
U.S. TSA traveler throughput ticked down to 17.2 million for the week ended April 18, down from 17.4 million the prior week. That was down 1.0% over the year but up 4.4% from 2019.
Weekly data on Arizona new business applications continue to be published by the Census Bureau, but only on a monthly basis. Weekly data for March ranged from 820 to 870. Overall, new business applications remain strong, compared to pre-pandemic levels, but have weakened compared to 2023.
Data on seated diners at restaurants using the OpenTable app is no longer being updated to compare the current week to 2019 results.
