Arizona initial claims for unemployment insurance remain low
Arizona initial claims for unemployment insurance ticked down to 2,739 for the week ended December 14, down from 3,095 the prior week. Claims were down 16.1% over the year and down 16.9% from 2019.
U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance dropped to 251,527 for the week ended December 14, down from 309,459 the prior week. That was up 4.4% over the year but down 7.0% from 2019.
The U.S. hotel occupancy rate bounced up to 59.5% for the week ended December 14, up from 59.0% the prior week. That was up 8.8% over the year but down 1.7% from 2019.
U.S. movie box office sales fell to $129.6 million for the week ended December 19, down from $181.3 million the prior week. That was unchanged over the year but down 20.1% from 2019. New movie releases were down 29.2% from 2019.
U.S. TSA traveler throughput dropped to 16.6 million for the week ended December 21, down from 17.3 million the prior week. That was down 6.4% over the year but up 9.9% from 2019.
Weekly data Arizona new business applications will continue to be published by the Census Bureau, but only on a monthly basis. In November, Arizona new business applications increased over the year for five consecutive weeks (weeks ended November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30). During the period, applications averaged 730 per week.
Data on seated diners at restaurants using the OpenTable app is no longer being updated to compare the current week to 2019 results.
As of October 15, 2022, Google stopped updating mobility data.
