U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance bounce up after the holiday week
Arizona initial claims for unemployment insurance spiked to 2,614 for the week ended December 6, up from 1,709 during the Thanksgiving holiday week. Claims were down 15.5% over the year and down 36.4% from 2019.
U.S. weekly initial claims for unemployment insurance also bounced up from the prior (holiday) week, reaching 313,140 for the week ended December 6. That was up 1.2% over the year but down 1.5% from 2019.
The U.S. hotel occupancy rate bounced up to 57.2% for the week ended December 6, up from 49.8% the prior week. That was down 3.1% over the year and down 5.1% from 2019.
U.S. movie box office sales fell to $197.9 million for the week ended December 11, down from $227.8 million the prior week. That was up 9.1% over the year and up 58.5% from 2019. New movie releases were down 46.2% from 2019.
U.S. TSA traveler throughput was steady at 17.3 million for the week ended December 6. That was down 0.2% over the year but up 7.2% from 2019.
Weekly data on Arizona new business applications continue to be published by the Census Bureau, but only on a monthly basis. Data for September has not been updated due to the federal government shutdown.
Data on seated diners at restaurants using the OpenTable app is no longer being updated to compare the current week to 2019 results.
As of October 15, 2022, Google stopped updating mobility data.
